In an era increasingly defined by generative imagery, infinite retouching, and the algorithmic perfection of our social media feeds, film offers a counterpoint with something physical, imperfect, and deeply human.</p>

<p>Film occupies a rare space in the modern visual landscape. Each frame is a direct record of light interacting with a physical emulsion, an event that occurred in real time, under real conditions. Where digital excels at capturing everything, film excels at distilling essence, and when combined, they create a visual dialogue. Digital brings clarity. Film brings soul. Together, they form a more complete record of the day. An interplay between modern efficiency and timeless emotion.</p>

<p>In wedding photography, emotion and memory intertwine. The blend of digital and film allows a story to unfold with both accuracy and atmosphere. The renewed fascination with film is more cultural than it is coincidental. As AI-generated images and digital manipulation blur the boundaries of reality, people are seeking images that feel unmanufactured. The more synthetic our visual world becomes, the greater our hunger for what feels honest and truly authentic. It&rsquo;s about honoring the human element that makes photography an art form, not just an image.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Genevieve and Andrew's wedding day was one for the books, taking place in the charming town of Kennebunk, Maine. The setting, a tent erected in Genevieve's parent's wooded backyard, was a sight to behold.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Neither saw the other before the big reveal as Genevieve's father walked her down the aisle at the beginning of the ceremony. Andrew, as well as the gathered guests, were stunned by Genevieve's unique and colorful wedding dress. It spoke to the uniqueness of their union and their plans for the day ahead. Their dog Bear walked Genevieve's maid of honor down the aisle, and was as much a part of the wedding as his human counterparts.</p>

<p>After their beautiful ceremony in the woods, where guests sat on benches made from trees that had been cleared to make the field more suitable for their plans, their families came together where we made portraits of them with parents and siblings, as well as their attendants and, of course, Bear.</p>

<p>The highlight of the day for me, as their photographer, came after the family portraits were done. I had arranged a mini-portrait session with the newlyweds. We took a leisurely walk in the woods behind the property, taking our time to capture their bond in the serene woodland setting. The tree-lined path that led to a dock overlooking the river that ran through the woods was the perfect backdrop for their portraits. We took our time making several portraits, using both digital and film to capture the essence of their love for each other.</p>

<p>This time was not about making everything perfect. It was a chance for them to step away from the crowd, to share some alone time as a newly married couple. It was an opportunity for me to capture them in their most natural and relaxed state, away from the eyes of their guests.</p>

<p>I believe that the best wedding photos are the ones that are not overly posed or scheduled. They are the ones that capture real moments, raw emotions, and authentic expressions. My time with Genevieve and Andrew in the woods was the epitome of this belief. Their love for each other was so palpable, so real, that it made my job as their storyteller easy.</p>

Hotel Northampton Wedding - Ciara and Lukas

<p>Stepping into the <span style="color: rgb(28, 28, 225);"><a href="https://www.smith.edu/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Smith College</a></span> Botanic Garden greenhouse, located in Northampton, MA, I felt an immediate sense of excitement. The venue was hosting its annual bulb show, a spectacle that Nanda and Chad, the couple whose engagement session I had the pleasure of photographing that day, were eager to explore. The greenhouse, alive with a myriad of colorful flowers, created an enchanting and vibrant atmosphere. It was, without a doubt, a unique and special location for their session.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Nanda and Chad's enthusiasm was infectious. Every corner of the bulb show held a new surprise, a new backdrop for their portraits. The challenge lay in the abundance of opportunities. Since Nanda and Chad are members, we gained entry to the bulb show an hour before the general public was allowed in. It proved to be a tight space, so while there were a handful of other members there, no one was in anyone else's way.</p>

<p>Navigating the vast greenhouse, we spent a bit over an hour moving from one location to another, capturing the couple's joy and love amidst the beautiful flora. Whether it was under a canopy of colorful flowers, beside a quaint garden pond complete with a frog that called it home, or in front of a lush, leafy backdrop, each photograph tells a unique story. And as we moved, the greenhouse seemed to come alive, as if it was part of the session itself.</p>

<p>Nanda and Chad's engagement session in the Smith College Botanic Garden greenhouse was a testament to their joy and love. Coupled with the vibrancy and beauty of the bulb show, it resulted in a collection of photographs that tell a story of love, joy, and a session that they, and I, will remember fondly. The greenhouse, with its kaleidoscope of colors and fragrances, was more than just a venue for a photoshoot. It was a character in their story I was privileged to tell.</p>

Smith College Engagement Session - Nanda and Chad's Floral Paradise

<p>Imagine the perfect wedding nestled in the heart of the scenic Berkshires. The Lake House Guest Cottages of the Berkshires was the ideal setting for Frankie and Bobby's big day. The atmosphere was relaxed, yet radiated an excitement that was palpable. This charming venue offered the couple a unique experience - the opportunity to prepare for their special moment in separate cottages, preserving the tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony.</p>

<p>As I arrived at the venue, the sun was shining brightly, promising a beautiful day ahead. The anticipation rose as Frankie and Bobby each got ready in their private spaces, a sense of intimacy permeating the air. The ceremony was held in front of a splendid arch, ingeniously converted into a bookcase reflecting the couple's shared love for books. As Frankie walked down the aisle, their eyes met and it seemed as if time stood still. The joy, the love, the unspoken promises shared in that glance were a photographer's dream, as was the laughter both Frankie and Bobby shared throughout the ceremony.</p>

<p>Later into the evening, as the sun began to set, we moved onto a dock stretching out into the serene lake. There I captured a series of sunset portraits. The glow of the setting sun, the calm water, and the love between Frankie and Bobby made for stunning photographs. These are the moments that remind me why I became a wedding photographer. It's not just about capturing images, it's about capturing emotions and telling a story.</p>

<p>The reception was a blur of colors and non-stop dancing. Colored lights illuminated the venue, adding to the festive atmosphere. Everyone was having a great time, their happiness and energy making my job easier. The highlight of the evening came when Frankie and Bobby shared a final dance alone under the beautiful small lights affixed to the ceiling, creating a magical, romantic mood. It was a quiet, intimate moment that perfectly encapsulated their love.</p>

Lake House Guest Cottages of the Berkshires - Frankie and Bobby's Wedding

Seth has been a dream to work with! We had never worked with a professional photographer before, but we felt so comfortable with Seth after just a couple minutes. He was very accommodating and communicative throughout the process. Most importantly, we LOVE the photos! He did such an incredible job capturing all the special moments that day. When we finally had our big ceremony Seth was incredible! He was fantastic leading up to the wedding nailing down all the details with us and making sure everything we wanted captured that day was on his list. "I didn’t originally set out to be a wedding photographer. In fact, for the first 15 years of my career I intentionally avoided this path, instead telling stories as a freelance photojournalist. At the time, my issue with photographing weddings was what I saw as the formulaic nature of the field. Everyone was posed. Everything was over-scheduled.

This is not the way to capture real moments or authenticity, nor to evoke feeling when people see the photographs years later.

I had no interest in taking those kinds of uninspired pictures. I still don’t. But when the people in my friend group began to get married and wanted me to document their day, I decided to give it a try. Those early experiences ignited a spark that continues to this day.

My experience as a photojournalist brought out and honed my documentarian and storytelling nature. I’m skilled in the art of being in the right place at the right time, and I use this experience and the techniques I’ve learned to tell the story of a wedding day.

I finally accepted an offer to photograph a friend’s wedding, and it was more creative and fun than I anticipated. I discovered that you can take meaningful photographs at a wedding, without posing anyone, or pulling a couple away from the party.

I learned that a wedding is just like any other story. What it needs is a good storyteller."
